What's Their Excuse This Time?

Some years ago, Rick Mercer had a special called Talking To Americans, its purpose being to satirize the profound ignorance many of our U.S. cousins have regarding Canada. Here is a brief clip:

Given their chronic conviction that the United States is the centre of the universe, Americans could perhaps be excused for not knowing anything about their northern neighbours. However, it does not explain the following, in which actors pretending to be Fox News reporters asked people about some outrageous things their politicians allegedly said or did:

At a time when people are beginning to take seriously the possibility of a Trump presidency, it seems that widespread ignorance and credulity could have some far-reaching consequences.

  1. That was terrific, Lorne. What a great way to start the day. The Boston Globe has a story this morning about Mitt Romney and Trump. It seems Romney is using the tactic used on him in the last election. He's calling for Trump to release his tax returns. Romney says either Trump isn't making anywhere near what he's boasted about or he simply hasn't paid his taxes. That seems to have launched Trump into a rage.

Anyway, thanks for posting the clip.

  2. I don't know if you're familiar with the satirical film "Idiocracy"? I actually had my kids get it for me for Christmas. Today the creator of Idiocracy laments that it's become a documentary.

    1. Thanks, Mound. i just looked it up, and it appears to be available online. I'll set some time aside to give it a look soon. BTW, I read the Boston Globe story you mentioned. I guess Trump's reaction constitutes his main political strategy: when attacked, ridicule your attacker. Probably sends a lot of shivers down the spines of the spineless.
